ParalympicsGB launches new Athlete Community uniting generations of Great Britain’s Paralympians

Today marks the launch of a first ever ParalympicsGB Athlete Community – with the intention of reuniting every athlete who has competed at a Paralympic Games for Great Britain & Northern Ireland since the inaugural competition in 1960.

Ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games this summer, this moment in history marks a significant development for Para sport in the UK, as every athlete from Paris onwards will be automatically included into the community for Paralympians, with Paralympians.

The ParalympicsGB Athlete Community will create opportunities for old friends, teammates, and fellow sporting legends to reconnect, and for new connections to be made across the generations, and to learn about and record their personal part in our history.

The call now goes out to the nation to help find everyone who has represented Great Britain & Northern Ireland at a Paralympic game whether Rome 1960, Innsbruck in 1984, Athens in 2004 or Rio in 2016.

Athletes from across the generations united for the first time at ParalympicsGB Headquarters, rallying the nation to help reconnect all those who have inspired a nation through the power of para sport.

The new community has been created to offer a number of benefits to all athletes, including reunion events, recognition tokens to celebrate every athlete’s commitment to the movement, and further opportunities for social connection to share experiences with both active and previous athletes.
